Zap Energy is searching for a highly skilled and experienced control systems engineer to join the Data Acquisition and Controls team in R&D. In this role, you will lead the technical design and implementation of complex cyberphysical systems that execute Zap Energy's state-of-the-art plasma fusion science and pulsed power tests. This role requires broad competency in variety of software, electronics, communication, and hardware domains to meet the needs of Zap's variety of research platforms.

Required Qualifications
- At least 10 years' experience in design and implementation of control systems for industrial science research or engineering platforms.
- At least 5 years' experience in distributed control systems.
- At least 5 years' experience serving as technical lead and primary contributor for control systems projects.
- Proficiency in multiple commonly used control systems programming languages such as Labview, C, C++, Java, Python, Erlang, Elixir, TwinCAT, IEC 61131-3 languages for PLCs like Structured Text and Ladder Logic
- Proficiency in multiple commonly used control systems communication protocols such as Labview Shared Variables, Modbus, EtherCAT, OPC, EPICS, MQTT
- Competency in electronics design, schematic capture, and fabrication using packages such as Altium, KiCAD, Autodesk EAGLE, or similar.
- Experience in control for plasma or pulsed power systems
- Experience with clock synchronization technologies such as EtherCAT, White Rabbit, PTP 1588, or similar
- Experience working with and mentoring junior team members
- Experience designing for noisy environments with high EMI
- Experience designing or integrating with human safety systems
