Overview

This position can be based out of any of TRC's offices within the US.

We are currently seeking a Level 5 Designer with Oil & Gas Facility Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls design experience. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 20 years of experience in preparing drawings and documentations in the oil and gas industry and must be proficient in AutoCAD. Additionally, experience with an engineering consulting firm is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and in a team.


Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Lead the design and drafting of Electrical & Instrumentation systems for Oil & Gas facilities using AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of all EI&C designers, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to TRC and client standards.
  • Manage high-profile, large-scale EI&C design projects and provide senior-level guidance from concept through final deliverables.
  • Prepare level-of-effort estimates, design-hour budgets, and material take-offs to support proposals and project planning.
  • Provide strategic oversight for design execution and contribute to long-term EI&C design strategies aligned with company goals.

Client Interaction & Meetings

  • Attend and lead client meetings to present design concepts, resolve technical issues, and support project execution.
  • Manage client relationships and expectations at a senior level.

Technical Design Execution

  • Develop detailed EI&C drawings and specifications, including power distribution, lighting, motor control, communications, heat tracing, grounding, instrument plans, schedules, wiring diagrams, and loop drawings.
  • Review, verify, and integrate vendor data into the design; ensure all vendor information is incorporated accurately into project deliverables.
  • Oversee and approve complex electrical calculations such as conduit/cable sizing, panel loading, and system analyses.
  • Interpret technical data, vendor information, and engineering specifications to ensure design compliance and constructability.
  • Perform field verifications and site inspections as needed.

Design Reviews, Quality Control & Standards

  • Lead internal design review meetings focused on AutoCAD outputs and drawing quality.
  • Conduct final quality assurance checks and supervise the approval of all EI&C design deliverables before project sign-off.
  • Ensure all project documents remain complete, accurate, and up to date throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Develop and update EI&C design standards, templates, workflows, and procedures.

Cross-Discipline & Internal Collaboration

  • Oversee coordination between EI&C design and other disciplines including piping, mechanical, civil, and structural teams.
  • Interface directly with project engineers and project managers to resolve design issues and maintain alignment with project requirements.

Training & Team Development

  • Mentor, coach, and train junior and mid-level designers.
  • Develop and lead structured training programs for EI&C design best practices, CAD standards, and workflow improvements.

Safety

  • Incorporate safety considerations into all EI&C design work and support the development of safe, compliant design solutions.

  • A two-year associates degree
  • 20+ years of experience using AutoCAD software for electrical and instrumentation design
  • Expertise in relevant codes, standards, and regulations for the Oil and Gas industry
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • In-depth knowledge of instrumentation and electrical equipment commonly used in Oil and Gas facilities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality designs on-time and within budget in a fast-paced and challenging environment

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
