Overview

The SUE Crew Chief is responsible for leading field operations related to the identification, documentation, and mapping of subsurface utilities. This role requires a strong understanding of utility locating techniques, geophysical equipment, and survey methodologies. The Crew Chief oversees a team of field technicians, ensures data accuracy, and coordinates with project managers and engineers to support design and construction efforts.


Responsibilities

  • Lead field crews in the safe and efficient execution of utility locating and mapping tasks.
  • Operate and maintain geophysical locating equipment (e.g., electromagnetic locators, ground penetrating radar).
  • Interpret utility records and as-built drawings to assist in field investigations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of utility locations using survey-grade GPS and total station equipment.
  • Communicate findings clearly with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain field safety standards and ensure compliance with company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Train and mentor junior field staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience a SUE Crew Leader/Chief.
  • Effectively communicate with internal & external stakeholders and team members.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Proficiency with utility locating equipment and survey tools.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift equipment or materials up to 50 pounds
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Must be able to obtain a DOT regulated medical card
  • Must be able to drive a DOT regulated vehicle under 26,000lbs (Non-CDL)
  • Must be able to obtain access to federal facilities

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range

USD $30.00 - USD $35.00 /Yr.
