Overview

Position Overview:

As a UI/UX Designer at TRC Companies, you will play a crucial role in creating products that enhance our reach and impact within the utility sector. This position involves leveraging your design and technical expertise to create and implement effective software product- solutions that address the specific needs of our clients for managing Energy Efficiency and other utility programs. Collaborating closely with the entire product management team, you will use your knowledge of utility processes and energy efficiency to create clean, simple product designs that make our products powerful yet easy to use and implement, driving innovation and sustainability initiatives and ensuring optimal customer benefits from our products and services.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the user experience and interface design, ensuring our software product meets the highest standards of usability and aesthetics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of agile methodologies, particularly Scrum, and have experience collaborating with both offshore and onshore teams. Excellent communication skills, along with expertise in developing style guides and user personas, are essential for this role.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities (Duties):

  • Collaborate with product manager, product owners, developers, and stakeholders to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals, and experience.
  • Define digital customer experiences across all digital platforms.
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to development team.
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • Develop and maintain style guides, ensuring consistency across all digital platforms.
  • Responsible for owning a highly functional user experience that drives customer engagement and promotes easy completion of daily and regular tasks.
  • Drive product design initiatives and customer experience enhancements.
  • Engage with the product team on the product roadmap and its offerings and contribute UX insights to ensure the solutions meet future customer needs.
  • Understand potential configurations of product for various clients and contribute to logical, simple configuration steps.
  • Contribute to documentation for customer trainings on how to use the product effectively, enhancing user adoption and satisfaction.
  • Research industry and competition to identify areas of opportunity and improvement in areas of usability, data visualization and presentation, and overall user-centered design principles that apply to our products and services.
  • Engage with program teams, utility sector clients, and services team to better understand day-to-day use cases and identify UI/UX improvements.
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards.
  • Work closely with offshore and onshore teams to ensure seamless collaboration and delivery of high-quality designs.
  • Facilitate workshops and design sprints to engage stakeholders and gather input for design improvements.
  • Stay up to date with the latest UI/UX trends, techniques, and technologies.
  • Support the development team by providing detailed design specifications and ensuring design integrity throughout the development process.
  • Stay informed about trends in the utility industry and advancements in energy efficiency and related programs to better understand client needs and continuously improve their user experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are those an applicant must possess to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science or 3+ years of UI/UX design experience, ideally within the utility industry or a related sector. 8+ years of product or design experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Proven experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining style guides.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working with both onshore and offshore Agile teams and knowledge of Scrum methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage effectively with customers.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience engaging with customers and defining customer/user journeys.
  • Experience with Scrum/Kanban or similar Agile Software Project Management tools (i.e. Jira, Trello, Azure DevOPS).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and consistently meet deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing previous UI/UX design projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are not required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Master’s degree in Design Thinking, Human-Computer Interaction, Design Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of front-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Direct experience with utility industry customers, energy efficiency and/or renewable energy programs and data tracking systems.
  • Strong understanding of utility operations and the regulatory landscape.
  • Proficiency with PowerBI.
  • Experience working with CRM software, particularly Dynamics CRM or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable practices.
  • Additional certifications/experience in UX design or related fields.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
