TRC is a global consulting firm providing environmentally advanced and technology-powered solutions for the oil and gas, power, and infrastructure industry. We are seeking Energy Markets professionals with ISO/RTO and Market Management System (MMS) platform experience to join our TRC Digital team.
TRC Digital, a business unit within TRC, delivers IT/OT expertise and solutions to best address our client needs and has a proven track record supporting utilities in the deployment of complex operational technologies. We have broad capabilities for IT/OT project delivery while being highly specialized to meet the needs of each individual client. We are the trusted advisor and implementation partner for electric and gas utilities undergoing digital transformation and can offer deep experience across utility OT systems.
The Energy Markets Systems Engineer will be an essential part of our team to grow the consulting practice in the Operational Technology and Real-Time Systems domain.
Responsibilities
- Design Market Rules based upon regulatory and other business driven requirements.
- Perform Market focused studies to validate market performance per revised design rules to meet regulatory and business requirements.
- Vendor management experience in working with MMS platform vendor to ensure quality of software delivery.
- Develop Test Specifications per regulatory and business requirements and review with key stakeholders.
- Execute Test Specifications to validate vendor and in-house developed MMS software meets requirements.
- Understand data architecture and dependencies, to drive end-to-end testing with key upstream/downstream systems.
- Partner with IT teams to ensure data interfaces are aligned with requirements.
- Manage changes to the Model Management processes to meet new MMS requirements.
- Develop and Execute FAT/SAT/UAT and cutover planning.
- Support go live cutover and post go live support.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working within the ISO/RTO Energy Markets domain
- Prior experience at an ISO/RTO implementing/support Day Ahead and/or Real-Time Wholesale Energy Markets, including with associated applications such as Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), Real-Time Co-optimization (RTC), Market Power Mitigation (MPM), Financial Transmission Rights (FTR), etc.
- Market Management System (MMS) Vendor and utility stakeholder management
- Familiarity with Day Ahead and Real-Time market implementations, business processes and functional upstream/downstream system dependencies
- Experience in Data Analysis and Analytics, of market data to identify anomalies from expected outcomes
- Familiarity with development methodologies, languages and tools such as C/C++, Python, PL/SQL, Java, etc.
- Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS), Real-Time Scheduling (RTS), Outage Scheduler (OS), Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC), Economic Dispatch, Modeling Language for Mathematical Programming like CPLEX, AMPL, MATLAB or GAMS is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, or related technical field required
- Course studies in power system operation and control, statistical analysis and optimization techniques particularly using linear programming-based computer models are desired.
- Familiarity with implementation of Optimization Models leveraging CPLEX, Gurobi, etc., within MMS platforms and Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC), Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) solutions.
- Background in models and databases used in power system analyses, and business experience in electric power systems or wholesale electric markets are desired, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Travel: Up to 20% travel to TRC client locations within the United States

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range
USD $109,812.00 - USD $134,214.00 /Yr.
