Electrical Engineer, BESS
Sparkfund
About Sparkfund
Sparkfund is the deployment services company utilities rely on to take DERs from grid edge to grid core.
With over a decade of experience as a utility services company, Sparkfund has pioneered a smarter approach to deploying distributed assets as part of a fast-growing grid. Through its Distributed Capacity Procurement (DCP) model, Sparkfund enables utilities to plan, deploy, and dispatch DERs at the scale and pace necessary to meet load growth demand and unlock the full value of the grid. We support program design, assessment of DER grid value, host engagement, and value chain management to ensure on-time, on-budget deployment of distributed resources with maximum grid value and lowest cost.
With more than 3,500 projects deployed across 43 states and more than 300MW of energized assets constructed, Sparkfund is transforming buildings into a valuable extension of the grid for the benefit of our society.
Position Summary
As an Electrical Engineer, you will be a vital member of the team executing our industry-leading, utility-led distributed energy resource (DER) programs. You will provide essential, hands-on support to our senior engineers across the full project lifecycle, from initial site assessment to final commissioning. This role is a perfect opportunity to build a strong foundation in a high-growth industry, develop your technical skills on complex battery energy storage projects, and make a tangible contribution to the modernization of the American grid.
Location
While Sparkfund is a remote-first company, with a digital workplace built around emerging hub-offices, this role is required to be in/around our Denver, Minneapolis, and Washington, DC hubs area. Candidates must be within commuting distance, or open to relocating, to be considered for this role. Company subsidized relocation is available for this role and will be covered by the recruiter.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Support: Assist senior engineers in applying standardized, pre-engineered BESS designs to specific customer sites, helping to adapt templates to meet site-specific requirements.
- Technical Analysis: Support site feasibility studies by gathering and analyzing electrical data, assessing interconnection points, and identifying potential construction challenges.
- Design and Documentation: Use 2D CAD to create and modify single-line diagrams, site layouts, and electrical details under the guidance of senior staff. Prepare technical submittals and respond to RFIs from contractors and permitting authorities.
- Project Coordination: Assist in the creation of bills of materials (BOMs) and procurement packages. Coordinate with external engineering consultants to track deliverables and ensure designs are progressing on schedule.
- Commissioning Assistance: Support the Controls and Commissioning Engineer with the creation of testing documentation and checklists for activities at our pre-assembly and logistics facility.
- Process Improvement: Help maintain accurate project documentation in our project management platform and participate in design review meetings, documenting action items to ensure continuous improvement.
