Position Summary

Sparkfund is hiring a Construction Manager II or III (CM) in the Denver metro area on a temporary basis to manage and oversee the delivery of a multimillion dollar building controls installation for a Fortune 500 company. This person will work on the construction site as a representative of Sparkfund as well as of Sparkfund’s utility partner, ensuring the construction project is delivered quickly with no interruptions or delay for both the owner as well as Sparkfund’s utility partner. This CM will own and manage the project plan as well as the Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs; ensure compliance with all EHS policies and national and local procedures, regulations, and codes; and monitor, track, and report the project’s progress and KPIs to key internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal person for this role has experience managing ground-up commercial construction projects and possesses strong technical expertise in building controls, mechanical engineering, and/or civil engineering. They should be a self-sufficient quick learner, comfortable and able to manage a project that is over 50% complete efficiently and effectively.

This role can be either a Construction Manager II or III level, based on the candidate’s experience and certifications. This person will report directly to Sparkfund’s Director, Project Management, and they will indirectly report to the project’s key internal stakeholders, including the Program Manager as well as the EVP, Financial Solutions. This role will collaborate closely with internal teams, including Program Management and EHS, as well as with external teams, including the construction crew, subcontractors, suppliers, customers, and inspectors.

Location

While Sparkfund is a full remote company, this is an on-site role located in the Denver, CO metro area. Applicants must reside in the Denver, CO area OR must be willing to relocate to Denver, CO within a week and reside there for at least a year. No relocation assistance will be provided for this role. Additionally, we may expect you to travel to Washington, DC and / or other US cities 1-2 times for organized team and / or company gatherings to collaborate with other members of the team / company, learn the ins and outs of our business, and contribute to our company culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead projects through completion and serve as the customer’s champion and main point of contact throughout the delivery process.
  • Own and manage the project plan – collaborate and coordinate with internal and external teams to monitor and adhere to project requirements and scope, coordinate the procurement of assets and materials as well as schedule and monitor their delivery, monitor and report on the project budget, and hire and construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Manage the construction project / installation – coordinate with external teams on site, conduct site walk-thrus, and review checklists to ensure construction is completed safely, on time, within the budget, and in accordance to the customer’s needs.
  • Coordinate with Sparkfund’s EHS team as well as with local / regional inspectors to ensure compliance with all safety and environmental procedures, codes, and regulations as well as adherence to Sparkfund’s safety values and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues, collaborating cross-functionally as needed to provide the customer with the best solution.
  • Update key internal and external stakeholders on a project’s progress regularly throughout the construction process, including delivering reporting on key metrics for the project and communicating challenges or delays and the status of their resolutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8-15 years of experience in construction management, technical project management, and / or general contracting.
  • Technical expertise with some combination of HVAC, boilers, chillers, air handling, fans, motors and drives, and building controls.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project plans and schedules.
  • Strong value on workplace safety, including familiarity and / or experience working with national and local / regional safety procedures, regulations, and codes.
  • High level of detail-orientation.
  • Experience presenting to multiple levels of stakeholders, up through and including executives.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts and topics effectively for non-technical audiences.
  • Adapts quickly to changing circumstances, skilled at making sound and defensible decisions in the face of incomplete information.
  • Competency in software and cloud-based information management tools including Salesforce, Google Workspace, MS Project, Slack, Asana, and project management tools such as BuilderTek, Procore, or Bim360.
  • Consultative approach to relationship management and meeting preparation (organized, anticipatory, goal-oriented).

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, OSHA, CPR/First Aid, NFPA or other relevant licenses and certifications.
  • Experience managing ground-up commercial construction projects.
  • Experience working with or within the Utilities, Energy Services, and / or relevant trade contracting industries.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and scopes of work at one time, with a demonstrated ability to switch between contexts quickly and efficiently.
  • Project development experience in the clean energy, resilience, and / or energy efficiency space, including knowledge of project risks, key stakeholders, market incentives, and customer value propositions.
