Position Summary
The Architect, Data Solutions is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the data architecture, strategies, and standards for an organization. Reporting to the VP, Data Solutions, you will play a crucial role in key system overhaul endeavors. You will collaborate with the engineering team, product owner, data quality and business intelligence teams to design and stabilize an internal waste management software package. Your goal will be to ensure the system will meet business objectives, while also ensuring the data is accurate, available, and secure.
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
- Analyzing the data needs and requirements of the organization.
- Design and evolve cloud-native data architectures on Azure to support analytics, reporting, and operational use cases.
- Develop data models and curated layers for reporting and downstream applications (e.g., dimensional models, semantic models).
- Ensuring the proper integration of new and existing data systems.
- Collaborating with data engineers and data scientists to optimize data pipelines and performance.
- Developing and maintaining data governance policies and procedures.
- Assessing data quality and eliminating corrupt data.
- Securing data architecture by establishing protocols and standards.
- Providing guidance and expertise on data storage, data extraction, and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes.
- Monitoring system performance and identifying potential issues.
- Documenting all procedures and data architecture design.
- Stay current on Azure data services, architecture patterns, and emerging capabilities.
- Ability to travel and/or work onsite as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Experience & Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- BSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field preferred.
- 5+ years of proven experience as a Data Architect / Data Solutions Architect / Senior Data Engineer (or similar role).
- Azure certifications (preferred ): Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
- Hands-on experience with Azure data services, such as:
- Azure Date Factory (ADF)
- Azure SQL Database / SQL Managed Instance
- Power BI (Tableau acceptable).
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with data management and governance practices (data quality, integration, privacy, lineage, cataloging; Purview experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of database architecture and modeling principles (relational, dimensional).
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Ability to lead architecture discussions, write clear technical documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle inquiries and requests efficiently and professionally.
- A proactive, can-do attitude with a willingness to take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion.
- Ability to work independently while also being a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
- Discretion and trustworthiness in handling sensitive information and supporting high-level strategic initiatives.
