We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead our dynamic team in designing, developing and maintaining robust and scalable APIs.

Key job responsibilities
As the leader of this team, you will be instrumental in driving the technical direction, architecture and execution of API initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objects and industry best practices. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking to deliver high-quality API solutions that enable seamless integration and drive innovation. You will manage a team of talented software developers and collaborate with cross-functional roles across the company to implement cutting-edge solutions that enhance millions of customer experiences. The right candidate for this role will be passionate about solving complex problems, have a track record of building diverse and high-performing teams that can invent, build, and deliver high quality software at scale across a global organization. You will be driven, detail oriented, and motivated to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

You will need to drive clarity in highly ambiguous technical environments, have the technical depth to guide and coach developers, and demonstrate excellent project management and communication skills to be successful in this role. You will own defining, measuring and reporting on key performance and operational metrics. In this role you will work closely with engineers, product managers, UX designers, and leadership stakeholders to design and architect products and technical solutions that drive forward our vision to ensure delightful and equitable experiences for all our customers.

This position involves some on-call responsibilities, typically when the team requires additional support. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice. We have a on boarding process to ensure a gradual and supportive transition into going on call.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 6+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 3+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
