The Utility Field Engineer will be a part of the Field Operations team. The Utility Field Engineer would focus on deploying, managing, and service air quality monitoring systems around industrial sites. This position will support the Utilities business and report to the Environmental Field Operations Manager. This position will frequently work from customer locations and often complete administrative duties from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field tests to support system development, improvement, and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate logistics and shipments between headquarters and customer sites.
  • Oversee customer engagements, from pre-sales visits to installations and maintenance.
  • Manage remote troubleshooting for customers, often in the evenings/night.
  • Liaise with site personnel to define scope, meet needs, and integrate systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements during system commissioning.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and requirements.
  • Complete tasks independently, such as quality reports and service visits.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success personnel and Head of Utilities to define project timelines and resource needs.
  • Follow safety protocols and complete required customer safety training.
  • Conduct system calibrations and validation tests as per quality assurance plans or regulations.
  • Manage hardware and spare parts inventory.
  • Develop manuals, test procedures, and guidance documents as needed.
  • Train customers on proper use of equipment and best practice protocols in the field.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 2+ years of experience with analytical equipment in academia, utility or oil and gas industries.
  • Comfortable working in the field with customers and potentially at facilities with hazardous materials.
  • Live in the Chicago Area or suburbs of Chicago
  • Willing to travel up to 50%
  • Must be available in the evenings/nights to support when customers operate equipment
  • Valid driver’s license for both U.S. and international travel.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with safety equipment and work with heavier objects (up to 600 lbs) alongside site personnel and forklifts.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
  • Ability to pass a drug screening prior to employment; may be tested throughout employment based on client requirements
