The Buyer/Planner is responsible for ensuring the availability of direct and indirect materials, temporary labor, and essential services to support production, warehousing, and operations. This role drives inventory optimization, supplier coordination, cost management, and process efficiency. The Buyer/Planner plays a critical role in aligning procurement with business objectives, maintaining supplier performance, and resolving supply chain issues proactively.

Key Responsibilities


  • Procurement Execution: Issue and manage purchase orders for production and indirect materials, maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) items, services, office and janitorial supplies, and temporary labor based on demand and business needs.
  • Supplier Management & Request for Quotations (RFQs): Manage supplier relationships, track open orders for on-time delivery, and resolve pricing, invoice discrepancies, and quality issues. Assist with RFQs, supplier evaluations, and negotiations to optimize cost, quality, and lead time.
  • Inventory & Material Flow Optimization: Maintain optimal inventory levels based on demand variability and lead times. Expedite or defer orders as required. Oversee material transitions due to product changes, obsolescence, new suppliers, and inter-company transfers between warehouse locations.
  • System & Data Management: Utilize ERP to manage purchasing, inventory, and warehouse functions. Maintain material master data, including minimum order quantity (MOQ), lead time, safety stock, and pricing, ensuring accurate procurement parameters in the system.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including production, warehousing, and finance, to resolve supply chain issues, provide alternative solutions, and drive efficiency.
  • Compliance & Process Improvement: Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and identify opportunities to streamline purchasing and inventory processes.


Skills Knowledge and Expertise


    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Logistics preferred.
    • 5–7 years of experience in a buyer/planner/material scheduler role in a manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Experience with demand-pull material planning and material requirements planning (MRP) systems.
    • Proficiency in NetSuite for purchasing, inventory, and warehouse management preferred, but experience with other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems will be considered.
    • Strong analytical skills with expertise in forecasting, inventory management, transportation, and supply chain operations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills required).
    • Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
    • High sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
    • Ability to manage conflict, influence stakeholders, and drive results in a fast-paced environment

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
    • Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
    • Ability to work flexible hours or overtime with short notice if needed.
