We are seeking a motivated individual for a Senior Fermentation Process Development Engineer position to develop and optimize fermentation processes across bench and pilot-scale for multiple bioalternative products. This candidate will play an integral role as part of Manus’ process development team at our Augusta BioFacility.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and optimize fermentation conditions and parameters for the production of complex natural products.
  • Apply knowledge of microbial physiology, biochemistry, metabolism, and process development to improve titer, yield, and productivity of engineered strains in fermentation.
  • Ensure that process development outcomes deliver against targeted commercial metrics and milestones.
  • Facilitate the transfer of technology and processes developed in the lab to pilot and commercial manufacturing
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements in the bioprocessing field, and apply this knowledge to enhance processes and drive innovation
  • Work collaboratively with the Boston R&D team to evaluate strains and provide feedback
  • Communicate plans and experimental results with various technical teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field with 2 or more years of industrial experience
  • Expertise in bench and pilot-scale fermentation process development
  • Expertise in microbial physiology
  • Critical thinker with enthusiasm for deriving solutions to complex challenges

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with analytical instrumentation (GC, LC)
  • Experience in scale-up of fermentation processes from lab-scale to pilot plant and/or production-scale
