Our team is led by seasoned energy executives and world-renowned technical thought leaders, and we are looking for a fantastic Senior Accountant to work with our team in Denver, CO.
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the accounting team, responsible for executing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. This includes preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of financial statements. The role requires exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. The individual will often work independently and must be confident in interacting with various departments within the organization.
Role Responsibilities
- Conduct business with the highest ethical standards
- Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close and reporting responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries related to various accounting transactions
- Perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts, including cash, fixed assets, and intercompany balances
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, ensuring completeness and accuracy
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information for financial reporting
- Coordinate and support external audits by providing requested documentation and explanations
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices within the accounting function
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-6 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on general ledger and financial reporting; public accounting experience will be considered in lieu of corporate accounting experience. Experience in energy or other highly regulated industries preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Quorum Software is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls. Proficient ability to interpret and apply guidance and standards such as the FASB Codification and internal accounting policies.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, critical thinking and attention to detail.
