The opportunity

The UAS Pilot - T & D Inspections is responsible for conducting powerline inspection projects for customers in North America and representing Infravision products and values. This is a field based position that will require regular travel to operate in remote sites.

What you’ll do

Conduct UAS operations for various data capture missions and including, aerial surveillance, inspections, surveying, and data collection. This is a field based position that will require regular travel to operate in remote sites.

Flight Operations:

  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and flight training programs to ensure safety protocols are adhered to at all times
  • Follow instructions to comply with relevant regulations, including FAA guidelines (or local aviation authority)

Planning and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the team to plan and conduct UAS Inspection activities in alignment with project requirements, schedules, and data collection objectives.
  • Must be able to conduct CRM when working in a team atmosphere

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • When conducting flight duties, complete or assist with:
    • Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on UAS components, including airframes, propulsion systems, electronics, and sensors, to ensure they are in operational condition.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on UAS to prevent malfunctions and optimize system performance.
    • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to UAS hardware and software, repairing or replacing faulty parts as permitted or required.
    • Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, including repairs and component replacements.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all flights comply with relevant regulations, including FAA guidelines (or local aviation authority), and adhere to company safety protocols.
  • Review and follow safety procedures before, during, and after flights, including pre-flight inspections and post-flight debriefs.
  • Work with safety officers to report and analyze any safety incidents or near-misses to improve future flight operations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain, update and ensure individual operational logs, maintenance activities, mission data, issue and quality reporting have been completed in accordance with Infravision and/ or regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with data analysts and other stakeholders to deliver actionable insights from flight operations and collected data.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Certification as a Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC), FAA Part 107
  • Proven experience operating unmanned aircraft, including pre-flight planning, flight execution, and data capture operations..
  • Strong understanding of UAS technology, including hardware (e.g., motors, sensors, cameras) and software (e.g., flight control systems, data analysis platforms).
  • Experience with routine maintenance and troubleshooting of UAS systems and components.
  • Familiarity with airspace regulations, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, mentor and train UAS pilots and supporting team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Highly Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DJI Enterprise Aircraft as well as Blue UAS (DJI Matrice & Mavic Series. Freefly/ skydio experience huge plus)
  • Prior military or commercial UAS operations experience.
  • 500 Hours of T & D Manual Flight Operations experience (visual inspection of power structures near energized equipment)
  • Drone Harmony Inspection Software and GIS software alike
  • Must have Off road Driving Experience
  • 2 years of Drone Photography or Photography Experience

Work Environment:

  • Field operations in a variety of environments, including remote locations, urban areas, and potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Regular travel is required for project execution,mission support, equipment inspections and staging, or project needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry UAS equipment and tools.
  • Comfort working in outdoor environments and under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed for mission requirements.
