Hippo Harvest Project Manager - Greenhouse Site Selection & Development Pescadero, CA · Full time

Hippo Harvest is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the site selection and development of greenhouse projects. In this role, you will manage everything from site scouting and permitting to external contractor management and budget control. The ideal candidate has a background in commercial or industrial real estate development, particularly with projects that involve complex utility requirements such as natural gas and electricity.

Description

Location:

This is a hybrid role in the SF Bay Area. We work remotely most days but regularly get together at our greenhouse location in Pescadero, CA.

Company Overview:

In a world increasingly impacted by climate change, pollution, and population growth, conventional production of fresh/fruiting vegetables is unsustainable. Compared to field production, greenhouse hydroponic methods use 90% less water, increase yields, reduce food waste, use fewer pesticides, eliminate fertilizer runoff, and allow crops to be grown locally. However, greenhouse producers make up only a small part of today’s market due to high capital/labor costs and operational complexity. To close this gap, Hippo Harvest uses new methods of hydroponics, robotics, and machine intelligence to re-imagine greenhouses and build the sustainable, economical, and scalable production systems of the future.

As a Project Manager at Hippo Harvest, you’ll be responsible for overseeing and shaping our national expansion strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead site selection for new greenhouse developments.
  • Oversee permitting processes, ensuring compliance with local regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Manage external contractors and vendors, including negotiating contracts, overseeing timelines, and ensuring quality.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring projects stay on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate scouting for utilities, ensuring all necessary services (e.g., gas, electric) are available or planned for site builds.
  • Identify and hire external consultants (e.g., engineers, architects) necessary for project completion.
  • Ensure effective communication across teams and stakeholders, providing regular project updates and progress reports.

Qualifications:

  • Project/program management experience. Candidates with 3+ years of experience, from junior to senior levels, are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of permitting processes and working with local municipalities.
  • Experience working with contractors, vendors, and external consultants in a construction environment.
  • Strong budget management and contract negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects from start to completion.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing projects in commercial or industrial real estate development with significant gas and/or electrical utility requirements.
  • Experience working on development projects in California.
  • Experience in agricultural or greenhouse projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to commercial developments.

We Offer:

  • An exciting and fun work environment where your contributions will make a true difference.
  • Competitive salary from $80k-$135k based on level.
  • Full benefits package including six weeks of paid vacation, medical/dental/vision/life insurance, twelve weeks of paid parental leave, 401k, company stock options.
