What to Expect
Heron Power is a startup company building cutting-edge power electronics for the 21st-century grid. We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.
Our first focus goal is to build better converters (inverters & rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads to the grid. Heron Power’s leadership team is made up of seasoned veterans who have designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products over the past decade.
We understand that no one individual knows everything. We will all learn a lot together and from each other. We strive to build a collaborative, enriching environment conducive to personal, technical, and career growth. You can expect to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, driven by first principles engineering, solving difficult problems.
Job Overview
The Controller will be Heron Power’s first dedicated senior accounting leader. This role will be hands-on in the near term — bringing our close process in-house, leading an ERP implementation, and preparing for our first financial audit — while also laying the foundation for a best-in-class accounting organization. The ideal candidate is a technically strong, cross-functional, and systems-minded leader who has experience building an efficient accounting function from scratch to pre-IPO scale.
How You Will Contribute
Scope, select, and project manage implementation of Heron Power’s ERP system in advance of mass production, and ensure tight integration with Supply Chain and Engineering tools
Establish in-house month-end close process including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and account balances.
Create inventory and cost accounting processes to ensure accurate reporting of COGS and production
Provide ASC 606 technical accounting guidance on commercial contracts to ensure accurate revenue recognition
Lead preparation to become fully GAAP-compliant and audit-ready, including formalizing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Scale our end-to-end procurement and accounts payable process as Heron Power evolves from R&D to mass production, including hundreds of vendors globally
Manage treasury, tax filings, registrations, and other accounting operations
Recruit and mentor an efficient, high-performing accounting team over time as the company scales.
What You Will Bring
We have a short list of must-have requirements. We prioritize a strong grip on first principles, hands-on skills, and a sense of initiative. Domain-specific knowledge and experience will help determine the career level for each hire.
Must-Have Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior-level responsibility in a high-growth or venture-backed company
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, including experience with technical accounting topics (e.g. ASC 606, 330, 460, 842, 718, 730)
Hands-on experience leading an ERP implementation with cross-functional integrations (e.g. MES, PLM)
Extensive experience with inventory, fixed asset, and cost accounting in a manufacturing or hardware environment
Exceptional ability to communicate complex topics, collaborate cross-functionally, and juggle multiple large projects
Nice-to-Haves
Prior experience as the first or early accounting hire at a Series A–C company
Prior experience working for Big 4 or top tier accounting firm
Experience preparing for and managing a first-time financial audit.
Background in power electronics, energy, climate tech, or capital-intensive manufacturing
If you are passionate about technology and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you. Join us in accelerating the electrification of everything at Heron Power.
