What to Expect

Heron Power is a startup company building cutting-edge power electronics for the 21st-century grid. We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.

Our first goal is to build better converters (inverters & rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads to the grid. Heron’s leadership team is made up of seasoned veterans who have designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products over the past decade.

We understand that no one individual knows everything. We will all learn a lot together and from each other. We strive to build a collaborative, enriching environment conducive to personal, technical, and career growth. You can expect to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, driven by first principles engineering, solving difficult problems.

Job Overview

As Heron’s SuperTech, you will be at the forefront of technology and product development, from inception to scale. You will directly lead the deployment of the R&D lab processes and drive hands-on assembly, test and troubleshooting of new products and product variants through all phases of product launch lifecycle. Your role will be pivotal in providing technically detailed and timely feedback to the Engineering team to drive direct product improvements and advancements with specific attention to safety, quality and reliability. This role is versatile in nature and critical to the successful transition from R&D to Production-ready state, and welcomes outside-of-the-box thinking and innovative ideas to execute for excellence in our products.

How You Will Contribute

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Engineering, Reliability, Test and Operations) to develop processes for product build, test, failure mode identification and troubleshooting playbook through various experimental set-ups and systems

  • Document learnings and failure modes, analyze data and communicate to cross functional teams - including leadership – to drive product changes into future builds to track and to execute incremental improvements

  • Drive deployment of necessary lab equipment as product development requirements continue to expand

  • Work closely with manufacturing team to identify potential future issues and suggest strategies to mitigate them.

  • Perform various tasks related to product build and validation – including, but not limited to – soldering, 3D printing, machining, fabrication, rework, data analysis, equipment set-up, ideating assembly processes

What You Will Bring

We prioritize a strong foundation in first principles, practical skills, an inquisitive mindset, and a proactive attitude. Domain-specific knowledge and experience will help determine the career level for each hire.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Proven track-record of hands-on technical assembly, troubleshooting and diagnostic experience in mechanical parts of power electronics systems

  • Proven experience in prototype fabrication of full power electronics converters: Cabinets, busbars, inductors, water-cooling fixtures, sensors, cable harnessing and soldering (PCBA and copper bars).

  • Experience with metal sheet fabrication, cutting, bending, drilling and knowledge on welding methods.

  • Strong hands-on skills and experience with tools required to build all parts of a power converter system.

  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings for critical quality and assembly features to translate into execution

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
