Principal Product Manager - Remote Bay Area

The GridX product team is looking for an experienced (Billing, Platform, SaaS platform) Principal Product Manager to lead and craft inspiring products that deliver rate analytics to our energy sector clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong product background, an affinity for data analytics, and the ability to communicate ideas across design, engineering, operations, customer success, and client stakeholders.

The Principal Product Manager will work under the Senior Director of Product in the design, development, launch, and management of all GridX SaaS Rate Analytics and Billing products.


  • Develop and execute a clear and comprehensive product strategy for the SaaS platform that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives
  • Define platform requirements and longer-term roadmaps, ensuring the needs of internal product owners are met as well as future market need
  • Lead the strategy, concept, feature and functionality definition, development and launch of platform products both in-house and with strategic partners
  • Formulate business cases and roadmaps for new features and services
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to formulate and document the product requirements
  • Work with engineering to deliver platform capabilities via an agile approach, to adapt to changes in the market or internal environment
  • Support Solution Architect and Customer Success teams in ensuring successful and effective delivery and adoption of all products across all clients
  • Work with UX Designers to ensure delivery of optimal user experiences driving high adoption
  • Manage products through their life cycle—introduction, growth, maturity and ending stages
  • Apply a creative and flexible mindset to planning and problem-solving with the ability to focus on the details while maintaining perspective on the big picture
  • Drive cross-functional teams toward common goals by effectively navigating the organization and using thought leadership to foster collaboration and communication across teams
  • Provide thought leadership in the areas of GridX technology
  • Evangelize platform and core technology, internally and externally
  • Effectively communicate the product vision and roadmap to a wide array of stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in product management, consulting, data analysis, or equivalent in a SaaS environment, with a successful track record of bringing SaaS products to market
  • Experience in the utility or energy industries
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to distill complex ideas and translate them into terms relevant to disparate stakeholders, including engineers, designers, subject matter experts, and lay people
  • Ability to work across time zones and with offshore teams in a dynamic start-up setting
  • Ability to quickly learn new topics
  • Collaborates effectively in a globally distributed organization
  • Is a thought leader with the ability to influence
  • Clarity of thought and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Speaks the language of technologists, business and product people
  • Curious and up to date on relevant market developments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with utility rate/tariff-related modeling or billing solutions is strongly desired
  • Previous experience building a scalable SaaS platform in a startup environment
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, other related technical field or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding of data modeling and warehousing, big data technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
  • Good understanding of cloud computing platforms, SQL, and data analysis tools
  • Drive to build the tools and softwares that enable GridX to be a catalyst for a clean energy future

Your Location

Because much of the team is based in San Francisco, CA, it is preferred that the selected candidate be located in the Bay area but it is not required. The role will include occasional work at a GridX WeWork shared office or attendance at offsites and/or customer sites, as determined by your role’s responsibilities and agreed to with your manager.


Compensation is based on your specific location, and, for this position, may range from $140,000 to $200,000/year base salary + benefits/perks. Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on skill set, qualifications, experience and location.
