Role Summary:
The O&M Area Manager is responsible for leading a team of field technicians to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance and emergency response operations within an assigned geographic area.
This role owns day-to-day execution of maintenance programs, technician performance, scheduling, safety compliance, and regional KPIs. The Area Manager serves as the primary operational leader for technicians and is accountable for delivering field performance in alignment with company standards and customer expectations.
This position reports to the Regional O&M Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations Execution
- Oversees daily field maintenance activities across assigned sites.
- Ensures completion of preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and emergency response activities.
- Maintains 24/7 on-call readiness and emergency coverage within the region.
- Verifies work quality, documentation accuracy, and procedural compliance.
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manages and mentors a team of technicians.
- Conducts performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as required.
- Ensures technician qualification cards are current and progressing.
- Identifies skill gaps and coordinates training plans.
- Maintains technician morale, engagement, and accountability.
Scheduling & Resource Management
- Develops and maintains technician schedules to meet operational demands.
- Ensures appropriate site coverage and workload balancing.
- Verifies tools, PPE, and service vehicles are properly maintained and stocked.
- Forecasts labor and parts needs and communicates to Regional Manager.
Safety & Compliance
- Leads regional safety culture and compliance initiatives.
- Conducts safety meetings and ensures adherence to company and regulatory standards.
- Ensures incident reporting and corrective actions are executed promptly.
Customer & Stakeholder Interface
- Serves as primary operational point of contact for assigned customers.
- Owns communication regarding site performance, issues, and KPIs.
- Supports sales and business development activities as needed.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Tracks and reports KPIs including PM completion rates, response times, backlog, safety metrics, and labor utilization.
- Identifies performance trends and implements corrective action plans.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives within the region.
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
Experience
- Experience managing leaders or supervisors in a field service, maintenance, or operations environment.
- Minimum 2 years hands-on experience as a mechanical and/or electrical technician
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical discipline, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent field experience will be considered.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proven leadership and personnel management ability.
- Ability to manage schedules and prioritize workload under changing conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Working knowledge of maintenance management systems and reporting tools.
Additional Requirements
- Reside in assigned region (Houston).
- Ability to travel to assigned region monthly.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to work in industrial field environments, including adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Participation in on-call rotation.
