Full job description
This position is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, and properly handling incoming materials, products, and supplies. The Receiving Clerk ensures that shipments are accurately received and processed in accordance with company procedures, purchase orders, and safety requirements. The individual in this position may be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and/or as necessary.
Essential Functions
An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Receive incoming shipments and deliveries from suppliers, carriers, and other locations.
Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation.
Inspect shipments for accuracy, damage, shortages, overages, or other discrepancies.
Accurately record received materials into the company’s inventory, ERP, or warehouse management system.
Apply appropriate labels, tags, and identification to received materials.
Sort and stage incoming materials and transport them to the appropriate storage or production areas.
Communicate receiving discrepancies, damaged materials, and quality concerns to the appropriate department leaders.
Process receiving paperwork and maintain accurate receiving and inventory records.
Coordinate with Purchasing, Warehouse, Production, Quality, and other departments regarding incoming materials.
Assist with returns, rejected materials, and other receiving-related activities as required.
Operate material-handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, scanners, and other approved equipment, as trained and authorized.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe receiving and staging area.
Follow standard work processes, company procedures, and applicable inventory-control practices.
Follow all safety guidelines and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Complete standard work process and follow work instructions, procedures, and rotate as required.
Physical Activities
The following physical activities are necessary to perform one or more essential functions of this position.
Grasps, turns, and manipulates objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Visually verifies information and inspects equipment.
Reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
Repetitively moves, lifts, carries, and places merchandise and supplies weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance.
Stand and walk within work area for extended periods of time.
Operate motor vehicle or other large power equipment as needed.
Use approved equipment to step up and access freight and equipment in elevated areas.
Maintain awareness of surroundings, including but not limited to, changes in environment that could indicate a potential hazard.
Communicates effectively in person and via electronic communication
Work Environment
Working in the following environment is necessary to perform one or more of the essential functions of this position.
May work with substances that require special handling
Works in areas requiring exposure to varying temperatures, extreme heat or cold, and/or drafty conditions.
Work overnight, weekends, and varying shifts.
Work indoors for extended periods of time.
