Position Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Lab Manager to join our hydrometallurgical analytical laboratory. The role is hybrid combining laboratory management with hands-on analytical chemistry work. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of lab analysts, ensuring data quality and integrity, and preparing reports. The role is responsible for maintaining equipment and managing lab supplies to ensure ongoing support for the commercial plant and R&D functions. This position requires a strong understanding of analytical chemistry, metallurgy, and laboratory techniques, as well as an ability to analyze and interpret complex data to contribute to successful operations. This role is ideal for a highly technical and experienced candidate who can balance leadership responsibilities with active bench-level contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor analytical chemists and lab technicians.
  • Oversee daily lab operations, workflow scheduling, trouble shooting, and resource planning to support plant operations and R&D.
  • Establish and maintain SOPs, QA/QC protocols, safety procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, regulatory, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of lab supplies, standards, and consumables.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as pH meters, spectrometers, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), Carbon sulfur (CS), XRF, TGA, particle size analyzer, and filtration systems.
  • Generate technical reports, summarize findings, and provide recommendations for analytical process improvements to internal teams.
  • Assist with validation and MDL studies.
  • Stay up to date with industry advancements and emerging technologies in analytical chemistry for operations requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Candidates must be able to work day and night shifts if required

Qualifications

  • Sc. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Candidates must have experience with managing a LIMS and a solid understanding of ISO 17025 and GLP practices
  • 10+ years in analytical chemistry, including significant hands-on experience with metals and complex aqueous systems (e.g. REEs, transition metals, impurities) is a major asset.
  • At least 5 years in a lead, supervisory, or managerial role.
  • Excellent data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex experimental results.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to prepare technical reports and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
