Job Overview:

We are looking for a driven and experienced Project Manager to join our Capital Projects team. In this role, you will both manage and support capital projects, following project management best practices and organizational strategies, whilst working on a series of industrial plant development projects. The range of activities will include (but are not limited to):

  1. Project initiation, scoping, gathering of background data, applying for permits, performing due diligence, tracking and managing project activities and deliverables, and setting up projects throughout the project lifecycle (up to and including the warranty closure period).
  2. Work collaboratively and efficiently with all stakeholders
  3. Track the budget and execute the project.

This role reports to the VP of Capital Projects (or Senior Projects Manager). You will work collaboratively across teams, including engineering, corporate development, finance, strategic partnerships, Human Resources and Operations, to ensure successful project delivery. This is a full-time, hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote) role based in Toronto. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that a proper project kickoff workshop occurs with all that this entails (usually 3-day workshop with all stakeholders to develop the project charter, purpose, objectives, deliverables, budget, timeline, and the roles and responsibilities.
  • Additional kickoff meeting outcomes include:
    • Detailed scope of work and corresponding work breakdown structure (WBS)
    • Detailed master project schedule with milestones, dependencies, resources identified, start/end dates, links, etc.
    • Detailed project risk assessment and the mitigation strategy
    • RACI Matrix
    • Communications Plan
    • Stakeholder Management Plan
    • May include HAZOP review if the kickoff workshop is to refine/improve a prior plant design
  • Ensure proper due diligence is done.
  • Ensure proper H&S requirements are met where applicable
  • Ensure that all required permits and approvals are secured.
  • Identify stakeholders and develop fit-for-purpose communication strategies and reports.
  • Ensure projects are on schedule and expenditures are within budget.
  • Implement quality control and assurance for construction.
  • Support the team in project baseline and capability assessments.
  • Manage and support project controls.
  • Work with and develop process and/or value maps, gap analysis, and root cause analysis using tools such as:
    • Process maps/process flow diagrams/value stream maps to measure project performance
    • Data collection forms and checklists, cause-and-effect diagrams/fishbone diagrams/pareto charts/scatter plots to identify problem root causes
    • Brainstorming and gap analysis
  • Facilitate regular coordination with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and compliance
  • Leading and motivating project teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring team members are aligned with project deliverables

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in project management roles related to engineering, industrial, recycling, or mining industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Project Management or related technical degree
  • Proven experience in the application of project controls to monitor performance and ensure alignment with required project quality standards
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, organizing and executing projects from initiation to completion, delivering on time results, within budget, and to expected quality standards.
  • Experience managing project closure activities
  • Ability to effectively lead teams, communicate project updates, and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills
  • Very experienced using Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word – Power user in MS Project and Excel strongly preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and multitasking skills
  • Highly desirable Skills and or certifications: PMBOK, PMP, P.Eng, Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Experience in strategic metals recycling, industrial, or manufacturing environments related to metals, mining, or rare earth elements is an asset
