Job Overview:
We are looking for a Production Shift Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations on the production floor and manage a production crew at our Spoke NA1 metals recycling plant located in Mesa, Arizona. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position will supervise the daily and hour by hour activities of the production crew, coordinating with all departments of the plant (maintenance, receiving, inventory management, Safety, HR, as required) to drive the team to achieve targets as laid out in the production and maintenance for the facility.
The ideal candidate will foster and develop a work environment that promotes trust, teamwork, performance, quality, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Preproduction activities include:
· Participate in interviewing and hiring of production operators
· Assist in writing SOPs
· Training of operators on SOP’s
· Instruct and manage production operators in pre-production activities
· Assist in creation of line-up meeting boards and shift hand-over process
· Collaborate with logistics to finalize operating consumables storage locations
· Complete pre-production training
· May assist in installation of equipment
Postproduction activities include:
· Promotes and enforces the H&S of all employees and ensures the workers understand the hazards of all tasks to be undertaken and adhere to the controls required to protect the health and safety of the worker.
· Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly site inspections to ensure housekeeping and safety standards are always maintained.
· Manages hour-by-hour recycling activities of the production shift to ensure that production plans are executed to meet targets.
· Supports and promotes alignment with operations, corporate business strategy, and goals while promoting great places to work initiatives.
· Organizes the production crew and manages daily operator schedules to ensure they are balanced with the production demands.
· Lead shift line-up meeting to ensure all job assignments and daily communications are understood
· Drives activities on the production shift to ensure that expected production and quality rates are achieved and tracks all causes of loss for reporting and analysis.
· Ensures all process and quality checks are completed and tracked, and all out-of-control items are addressed when identified
· Conducts inspections and audit activities to verify operational objectives in areas of safety, quality, reliability, cost, continuous improvement, and management are achieved.
· Creates, reviews, and approves maintenance work permits to ensure all activities conducted in the facility conforms to Cyclic Materials Policies and Procedures.
· Leads, coaches, and mentors production operators.
· Maintains high quality standards and controls in all phases of recycling – raw materials, work in process, and finished goods.
· Leads and Supports activities to generate and execute creative solutions enhancing cost savings, quality, and overall successful delivery to clients.
· Supports the tracking of KPI’s needed for monitoring and measuring site performance, and completes actions to correct deficiencies as required
· Participates in the daily discussion on evaluation of operating and maintenance losses and action plans to prevent recurrence.
· Cultivates/ leads a continuous improvement culture throughout the plant, including completing regular review of site SOP’s to ensure that best practices are documented and followed in every activity.
· Ensures corporate on-time delivery and reliability goals are achieved. Involves pro-active response to issues and escalation where required to lead daily problem-solving on the production floor, demonstrating full ownership of shift activities, driving fast resolution of all downtime, and quality issues.
· Coordinates with H&S to ensure employee training and development is maintained current, and in compliance with Cyclic Materials policies and procedures, and compliance with applicable legislation. Potential to stand in for Operations Manager for vacation coverage and career development.
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· 5 years of progressive manufacturing experience
· Minimum 2 years' experience in managing a team, in a manufacturing operation with measurable results
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
· Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment.
· Ability to work on a rotating shift schedule, 5 days / week, days or nights, rotational basis, including holidays
· Ability to work in a noisy, dusty environment, and hazardous materials
· Experience in hydrometallurgical processes would be an asset
Working Conditions:
· This position may require working in outdoor or indoor environments, with exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
· The job may involve shift work, weekend shifts, or on-call availability depending on operational needs.
· Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
