Job Description
Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization. As the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, cash flow management, and providing strategic financial insights to senior management. This role is essential for ensuring the financial health of the organization and compliance with accounting principles, laws and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of financial principles, excellent analytical skills, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to achieve business objectives.
Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Develop and implement financial planning strategies to support the company's short-term and long-term goals.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to optimize resource allocation and drive profitability.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on financial analysis.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Liaise and maintain strong relationships with auditors, Consultants and other external stakeholders.
Treasury and Cash Management:
- Manage cash flow and liquidity to meet operational needs and maximize returns on investments.
- Monitor banking activities and maintain relationships with financial institutions.
- Implement strategies to mitigate financial risks, such as currency fluctuations and interest rate exposure.
Financial Operations:
- Supervise financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Streamline processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Strategic Planning and Decision Support:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic plans and initiatives.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and provide financial insights for decision-making.
- Assess the financial impact of business decisions and recommend courses of action.
Leadership and Team Development:
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Promote collaboration and cross-functional communication within the finance department and with other departments.
Qualifications
- Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CGMA or equivalent and/or Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Proven experience for 5 years in a senior finance role, preferably in a similar industry.
- Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Sri Lanka Accounting Standards (LKAS) and understanding of laws and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical skills and proficiency in financial analysis and modeling.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., ERP systems, Excel).
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
- High level of integrity, ethics, and attention to detail.
