Salary: $100,000 - $125,000 annually DOE

We are looking for a reliable Safety Manager to be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices and facilities to ensure compliance with legal guidelines. The safety manager must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.

The Safety Manager will conduct training sessions, monitor compliance, investigate accidents, and provide recommendations for improvement. They also communicate guidelines to employees, report on health and safety issues, and develop relevant policies to maintain a safe workplace. Their focus is on promoting occupational health and safety and minimizing risks for employees. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Internal Safety

Office Employees: Office ergonomics is one of the highest causes of workplace injuries, and due to the constant computer tasks, that our employees perform, joint, back, shoulder, and wrist pain is very prevalent and has a high potential to result in an OSHA recordable incident. Providing the appropriate ergonomic testing, controls, and equipment is an important part of office employee safety.

Health and Safety Plans: Ensuring our offices have the appropriate health and safety plans in place is an important part of a Safety Officer’s role within the company. The Safety Manager provides the appropriate resource to the employees and ensures that we are in compliance with local, state, and federal laws as well as ensure we are in compliance with client contracts.

On-Site Personnel: The safety officer provides immediate guidance and support to employees during any safety or risk incident that may be brought forth by our employees.

Safety Equipment: Ensures the appropriate safety equipment is available for both the office and any employees that attend jobsite visits for the client.

  • Safety Incident Response, Investigations, and Near Misses: Incident response is an important part of any companies’ safety program. The safety manager ensures the employees know the correct processes and procedures during a safety incident as well as who needs to be notified and in what timeframes following a safety incident and updates the employee safety program to address these near misses and mitigate future instances
  • Job Site Analysis (JSA). The Safety Manager performs job site analysis of company and client worksites.
  • Vehicle/Fleet Management - Ensures vehicles are available for use, in good repair, clean, and are being maintained appropriately. Performs regular compliance checks to ensure the appropriate safety equipment is still in place and installed appropriately
  • Address the Risk, Internal Safety, Contractual Obligations, Contractor Safety Program Contract Requirements, Vehicle/Fleet Management and any other safety related items that occur or change during out normal course of business
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics

Requirements and skills

  • Proven experience as safety manager (preferably within the Utility industry)
  • ISNetworld program knowledge (REQUIRED)
  • Avetta certification familiarity
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
