About the Role

Reports To: Director of Sales, US

Location: Loveland, CO (Remote will be considered). Domestic and International travel required.

As an Application Engineer at AtmosZero, you will be responsible for evaluating site-specific conditions and running detailed technical analyses to determine how our technology can best be applied. You will analyze customer-provided data, check system parameters, and ensure technical feasibility and performance alignment with customer needs. Your work will support the commercial team by providing clear, accurate assessments of technical fit, enabling them to confidently engage with customers and advance sales opportunities. In this role, you will participate in customer calls as a technical expert, helping to address detailed questions and refine system configurations to meet project requirements. You’ll work closely with both engineering and business development teams to bridge the gap between technical design and market application.

  • This position provides engineering support to successfully integrate AtmosZero’s Boiler 2.0 into customer sites.
  • The successful candidate will interface with several of AtmosZero’s internal teams (technical, commercial, and product teams), and directly with potential and existing customers to provide expert technical support
  • Problem-solving skills and strong communication are essential for this multi-team, cross-cutting role
  • Position would involve up to 25% travel, domestic and international

What You’ll Do

  • Assess and track the competitive landscape for decarbonized steam solutions to inform strategic positioning.
  • Represent AtmosZero as a technical expert in customer meetings and events, addressing detailed design questions and shaping application strategies in real time.
  • Act as a key technical liaison between AtmosZero and industrial end users or engineering firms, ensuring clear and timely communication across all project phases.
    • Lead engineering and integration efforts for deploying Boiler 2.0 alongside facility heating and cooling systems.
  • Analyze customer data and perform techno-economic simulations to assess system fit and integration pathways. Summarize findings in technical reports for customer delivery.
  • Collaborate with customers and partners to develop site-specific integration strategies that maximize system performance and economic return; may involve on-site visits to validate assumptions and support project execution.
  • Identify and interpret customer needs and pain points related to steam generation and usage, guiding tailored solution development.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain techno-economic models and system simulation tools.
  • Translate customer feedback and field insights into actionable product requirements, ensuring alignment with the engineering team and product development roadmap.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to support deployment, training, and stakeholder engagement for Boiler 2.0.
  • Support component sizing, specification, and sourcing efforts during product development sprints, collaborating with both technical and manufacturing teams.
  • Participate in technical conferences and industry events to present case studies, engage with stakeholders, and stay current on emerging trends and requirements.

Requirements

  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and system performance analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze customer-provided technical data (e.g., utility usage, process requirements, existing system configurations).
  • Ability to understand the commercial context from customer perspectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred candidates have one or more of the following qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in application engineering, system design, or technical sales
  • Experience or familiarity with:
    • Industry experience or technical knowledge of heat pumps and related industrial equipment (e.g. compressors, chillers, boilers, etc.)
    • Thermal system design and cycle analysis, including knowledge of refrigerant properties and P-h and T-s diagrams
    • Reading P&ID diagrams, including of industrial thermal systems (e.g. heat pumps, chillers, or related equipment, as well as for plant-wide heating and cooling distribution systems)
    • Creating and utilizing techno-economic tools to analyze product fit
    • Managing customer relationships and expectations
    • Attending networking events, such as technical conferences, including presentations, booths, etc.
    • Ability to work independently with little supervision and in a team environment
    • Experience with software tools such as Engineering Equation Solver, REFPROP, Matlab, and advanced capabilities in Excel
