The Senior Director of Battery Systems Engineering promotes solid execution excellence of battery modules, battery hardware and analytics. The person in this role will foster an exciting culture of accountability, innovation mixed with a heavy dose of fun.
Locations: Germany (Berlin or Erlangen) or India (Bengaluru).
This position will be responsible for leading our extended battery team including electrochemistry, analytics, sensing hardware, busing, switches and module development. The leader will foster an environment of collaboration.
The person in this role will actively teach team members – in a way that makes very complicated concepts applicable to them and easier to understand. The person in this role will actively reach out to other teams they interface with.
They will ensure that interfaces of batteries and associated hardware/software are well understood and documented. They will not do the work. They will make sure the process is running seamlessly and the final engineering will be successful. They will eliminate confusion and proactively clarify roles and responsibilities to ensure team alignment and success. The person in this role will lead a team that delivers on time and launches with excellence. They will teach the value of speed and creativity to their teams. The person in this role will be able to reach out across the corporation to collaborate with others outside of Engineering. They will collaborate to understand non-obvious opportunities and challenges.

The person in this role will:
Advise on technical challenges.
Proactively anticipate and remove roadblocks before team encounters them.
Interpret the needs of the corporation and translate into tactical items the team can act on. Follow through with processes and progress to ensure understanding and success of the team.
Determine and tweak/strengthen execution process for everyday workgroups. Process should reduce meeting time and improve effectiveness of workgroup and PET meetings.
Be an advocate for the execution team, working proactively to keep them engaged and effective. Work three to six months out to anticipate their needs and make sure they are successful.
The manager is expected to create a strong culture where team members feel respected, are empowered, and make meaningful contributions to Fluence.
The manager is expected to have regular 1:1’s with team members including skip-levels. The person in this position is expected to be in touch with all team members across Battery Engineering.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field.
Technical advanced degree is preferred.
More than 10 years of Battery Systems design experience with experience launching hardware
Deep understanding of cell chemistry including cell bill of materials and cell manufacturing processes
Deep understanding of BMS including cell balancing methods, cell sense boards, ASICs
Understanding of DFM/DFA methods  Understanding of GD&T
Deep understanding of FEA, development testing, and validation
Understanding of statistical methods. Understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Monte Carlo analysis is a bonus
Understanding of DFMEA.
Understanding of Fault Trees is a bonus
Ability to action complex and ambiguous issues
Demonstrated ability to establish a culture of accountability, fun and excellence
Team player with excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively.
Ability to work independently, stay hyper-focused, and prioritize work effectively.
