Chief of Staff for Product and Engineering promotes solid execution and fact-based decision-making across the product organization; acting as the ‘connective tissue’ that links all aspects of the CPO organization to the rest of Fluence. This role will work closely with the Chief Product Officer (CPO) to provide strategic support and operational oversight for the Product organization and its leadership teams. This person will recommend needed changes in organization to address efficiency, skill set gaps, speed, etc. This position will lead the operating rhythms and liaise with the all-domain leaders on all aspects of day-to-day business operations, including workforce strategy, investment decisioning, streamlining operations, strategic alignment, stakeholder communications, stakeholder engagement, program employee engagement, executive presentations, objective and key result management. A key part of this job will be for the person to define what needs to happen for true horizontal integration between CPO, the regions, Digital, GPO, Services, etc. Once creating the definitions, the person will lead the change management exercises to make the horizontal integration effective – and be given the authority to ensure execution.
The person in this role will evaluate team structure and organizational processes and make informed recommendations for changes that enable the product and technologies teams to enable the rapid scaling of the company. An analogy is the current investment Fluence is making in SAP in anticipation of being a $10B company (happening within the IT team). In a similar way, this Chief of Staff will analyze what skills, processes, tools, changes need to happen in the product organization in anticipation of growth, recommend and then guide the change management that follows. The objective is to design and build a team and operational processes for the company we are becoming rather than the company we are today.
This role will drive speed and competitiveness within the CPO teams (program, product, engineering, software) but also between CPO and other Fluence organizations. Fluence is a company of rapid changes – not only within CPO but in each function and region. This person will stay in touch with these changes and make plans for the Product/Engineering teams to adapt, operate and deliver within the shifting landscape. To do this, this leader will cultivate relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders across the company to develop a comprehensive point of view.

As the Chief of Staff, Product and Engineering at Fluence, you will:

  • Collaborate with the CPO and the leadership team to define and implement the functions strategic vision, KPI’s, goals, and objectives. Ensure they are well tied to vision, KPIs, and goals of other key Fluence functions like GPO (Supply chain and manufacturing).
  • Assist CPO in devising and implementing the optimal organization that is prepared to deliver today but also when the company is 2X the current size. This will include advisement on talent, structure, best practices and more.
  • Have the skills and attributes to create effective horizontal operations and KPI achievement between CPO and other key Fluence functions and regions and area identified as a need by the Fluence CEO
  • Provide standardized dashboards and KPIs and critical insights, analysis, and recommendations to optimize decision-making processes within Product function.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging business processes, benchmarking what is happening to recommend and execute needed organization and process change within CPO.
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication and collaboration, fostering a cohesive working environment between Product, Engineering and other functions across Fluence.
  • Develop and lead a CPO operational roadmap, ensuring alignment with overall company strategy.
  • Facilitate change management in a complex scenario and implement operations, communications, and staffing to make the change management effective.
  • Clarify the true priorities that exist within CPO and drive ownership, as well as follow up with the owners to bring to closure.
  • Be a strategic partner to the CPO, advising on key decisions for all aspects of operations, staffing, processes within CPO and between CPO and other Fluence orgs. Take the leadership and accountability to implement and execute once decisions are taken.
  • Develop and present executive-level reports, presentations, and updates on strategic initiatives and operational performance.

What will you bring?

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or associated field, with an MBA preferred.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in product engineering or product management, project management, strategic planning and operations, within the energy or technology sectors.
  • Strong understanding of energy and climate-tech industry landscape.
  • Exceptional analytical and root causing skills with a high degree of resilience to pressure.
  • Experience in organizational change management.
  • Strong data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Team player with excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, stay hyper-focused, and prioritize work effectively.
  • Results-oriented, diligent, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to lead teams to outcomes through leadership by influence.
